It is strange, but true, that we never really appreciate the area that we live in. It is so familiar to us that we don’t see what visitors see. Recently, I have been going out for walks in the early evening, just to re-acquaint myself with our surroundings.
We really do live in a naturally beautiful place. If you go down to the beach and walk from Towyn to Kinmel Bay, you find that nature is re-asserting itself on the sea defenses, with sand dunes making a spectacular feature. Many of the unusual plants that populate the area can also be found further down the coast and are of great scientific interest. Last night I was there and witnessed the kind of sunset that you might see on a post card sent from friends on holiday abroad. Visitors were even taking photographs of it. Looking inland, you can see the hills extending from Prestatyn to the Snowdonia Range, surrounding us on all sides with natural beauty.
The local councils and people in the community add to this by providing: park areas, woodlands, and flower beds which flourish in our climate. Councillor Corry mentioned, in the February Newsletter, that we would enter the ‘Wales in Bloom’ competition this year. We did, and the judges certainly appreciated our efforts and gave the area several good reports, as well as two first prizes – one for Community Woodland in Kinmel Bay and one for Knightly’s Leisure in Towyn. |
